i have never worked in the hospitality industry before and spent my last 4 years working primarily as a server and occasional host/other food services jobs. when i applied off of indeed, the job pay was listed at $14/hour with a signing bonus for part time. $14 sounds good considering i was a server making $11-12 but the tips usually converted it to a higher hourly pay. is this some sort of test that i have to pass otherwise i don’t get hired? my last couple jobs were working as a a high stress fine dining server and often dealt with shitty snobby guests so i feel like in terms of the customer service aspect i’ll be fine. i wanted something different than food service being i’m in my last year of college (almost accepted the job offer at vans) and marriott seemed like a good choice given the pay is higher than if i chose to try retail and something i can try to transition to full time after i graduate while on the job search. i currently work part time as a front desk agent.. i’ve worked for 7 different hotels over 15 years – a long time so hopefully i can answer your questions. your front office manager will be able to give you the details on your property’s goals. the training period is not a test.
