treatment programs are designed for families referred for parenting education by social services/mental health for child abuse and neglect and/or family dysfunction. in re-parenting, parents increase their understanding of the abuse and neglect they experienced as children and how these parenting beliefs and patterns were passed on to their children. however, due to the number of activities and the depth of the information presented in each topic area, more than one session may be helpful to adequately increase parents’ knowledge and build their skills. the nurturing program for families in substance abuse treatment & recovery is built on the principles of relational development.
