hey guys, going to start a new routine and looking to get some input on what’s worked for everyone. i know phat has a ton of volume versus phul, what would be most optimal during bulking? and if not do you draw back calories a bit from the surplus? i tried both of those off and on for years and kind of languished for years. i also cut some of the sets of 4 to 3. the gains have been crazy good. it takes 1.5-2 hours a day but if you’re serious about this, it’s worth it. i’m doing phat atm and have been seeing some gains for sure! also, no i don’t do other exercises on rest days and i eat the same on both rest and training days. if you’re advanced… phat and phul are both good choices. phul will save you time and phat will give you a lot more volume. phat lets you focus more on individual muscles, weakpoints and has all the fluff work that bros love.
the basic principle of phul workout routine is similar to phat i.e. the workout is performed 4 days per week with 2 power days and 2 hypertrophy days. basic principle of phat workout is that every muscle is worked 2 times per week. in fact, the total numbers of reps and sets performed in phat routine is 47.5% and 23% more respectively. if you plan to run each cycle for 3 months, then the amount of volume that you would have done on phat way high. another interesting point is that the number of reps you would have performed on phat in 6 weeks is equivalent of the total number of reps you would do on phul in 12 weeks. this means whether you do phat or phul, the muscle coverage you get at end of each week is the same. the thing about lifting is that you could make some progress on any program. throw the best program at someone who goes through the motions and they’re not going to get anything out of it. at this point you need to stop asking what to do and start asking yourself if you’re actually doing the work as intended. according to your numbers tho you’re not advanced enough for phat so i’d say phul.
