in the webtoon-adapted drama, our female lead had a lot of insecurities because of her traumatizing school life. south korean youtuber hyojin got inspired by im ju kyung’s makeup look: she uploaded a stunning im ju kyung makeup transformation in her vlog, and as of this writing, it raked in more than six million views! she said that people are saying true beauty is like the story of her life and hyojin admitted that she becomes a different version of herself when she’s wearing makeup. hyojin looked for a photo of the webtoon version of ju kyung on naver, and found one that she’ll use as a peg. hyojin applied her base makeup in thin layers for a second-skin finish.
since ju kyung has sharp features, hyojin focused on shading her nose to make it look narrower and did the same to the sides of her face. ju kyung also has a thing for pink and orange tones, so she put on some eyeshadow in those colors. to make her eyes appear wider, hyojin swept the pigment downwards. she also shared a cool trick to make your peepers appear more rounded: when you’re drawing a line on your eyelids, just apply a thicker line in the middle. to achieve that, hyojin filled in her brows first with dark eyeshadow and used concealer to fix smudges. to nail that doll-like look, she also added a few fake eyelashes.
the makeup i used in the true beauty makeup tutorial mostly came from holika holika. i used this makeup look of jugyeong because it’s one of my favorite looks from the webtoon. that and a lot of beauty youtubers were already using the true beauty webtoon thumbnail where she wears a pink blouse. i wanted to do something different. if your lip tint is not as glossy as hers, you could use lip oil on top of your lip tint.
the lip tints i used were the holika holika heart crush glow tint air in cuddly shade and oh shade. i also used the holika holika heart crush glow tint air cuddly as my cheek tint. i also made a couple of mistakes, i initially thought that i could use concealer to achieve the thin and straight brows. to achieve the puppy dog eyes look, i used the holika holika jewel light under eye maker. i don’t usually use contour and highlighter but i decided to use it on my nose since jugyeong has a sharp and narrow nose. last but not least, i used the holika holika my fave mood eye palette matte magique daizy for the eyes.
